Holding a physical copy of your work, even one you've just run off the printer for a round of editing, can feel wildly validating. So too can seeing your work presented with genuine care alongside the stunning creations of other writers.Patchwork Soup is a literary zine local to Rock Hill, SC, that weeks to offer writers the joy of encountering their own words face-to-face. We involve our contributors in the collaborative, hands-on process of preparing their work for presentation.Patchwork Soup is part of a Literary Citizenry Project assigned by Dr. Dustin M. Events

Craft Day

After acceptances are finalized, participants are invited to join us for Craft Day, hosted at Winthrop University. Volunteers and contributors will have the opportunity to decorate the zine's pages with provided collaging materials and/or materials brought from home.Craft Day for Issue 02 will be held on Saturday, Feb. 22 from 2 to 5 PM. Viewing Party

A viewing party will be held at Winthrop University. Contributors will have the option to read their work aloud before an audience of fellow writers, friends, and family. RSVP here.


Submission Guidelines

Applicants may submit up to three pieces of poetry, flash fiction, and/or creative nonfiction. Individual pieces should not exceed 1,000 words.Please submit your materials in double-spaced, 12-point Times New Roman font.Submissions should consist of one document. Do not include your name or any other identifying information within the title or content of your document.We accept submissions of any genre, form, and style, from creators of all ages. We will not accept work published in other zines or journals (with the exception of Winthrop University's The Anthology). Work previously published through social media, however, is acceptable. We will not accept work that promotes discrimination or violence. Please consider including content warnings for particularly sensitive pieces.Submissions are currently closed.

Gwen is an English major at Winthrop University who can often be found reading, watching Doctor Who, or coming up with weird scenarios and stories in her head. Gwen cannot wait to read what Rock Hill writers have to offer. She is currently listening to “Man of a Thousand Faces” by Regina Spektor.

Maddison B.

Maddison is an English major and psychology minor. When she’s not drowning in the abyss—that is to say, doing schoolwork—she likes to write queer stories, binge-watch TV shows, and look after her ever-expanding army of succulents. She is currently listening to “Swan Upon Leda” by Hozier.

Paige A.

Paige is an English major and creative writing minor. She enjoys photography and writing stories in which miracles leap from the mundane. She is currently listening to “No Roses, No Skies” by Have Heart.
